Leaks can now be detected speedily in parts of Johannesburg.
This follows an installation of leak detection devices at 51 smart controllers across the City.
In addition, some 225 noise loggers, were also installed.
Joburg Water said the aim of the devices, is to be more proactive than reactive, to detect leaks, reduce response times, prevent avoidable bursts and improve service reliability.
Thega Kandasamy, Acting Physical Loss Manager, at the utility, said “today we highlighted how Johannesburg Water is leveraging advanced technology and specialised equipment, to find and fix leaks faster, ultimately reducing non-revenue water and improving service reliability for residents.”
Part of the Leak Detection Programme, includes acoustic leak detection devices used to listen for and pinpoint hidden leaks along pipelines.
There are also correlators, to analyse sound frequencies to identify the exact location of underground losses.
