About 47 people were killed by floods in Nepal, following heavy rains, which began on Friday.

Of these, 35 died from landslides, 3 from lightning strikes and the rest from floods.

Some people were reported missing, feared to have been swept away by floodwaters and landslides, resulting from burst river banks.

A number of rivers in the town of Hill-ringed Kathmandu, spilled over to submerge homes and roads, under water.

Emergency teams are searching for missing people amidst collapsed bridges and flooded roads.

Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, said on Sunday, “the loss of lives and damage caused by heavy rains in Nepal is distressing. We stand with the people and Government of Nepal in this difficult time. As a friendly neighbour and first responder, India remains committed to providing any assistance that may be required.”
