Levels of water in the Vaal dam are full again, forcing 4 gates to be opened.
According to information provided by the Vaal River Rats, the Barrage is at 6.51 and discharging at 915.00m3/s.
The Vaal dam is at 102.65% with an inflow of 471.80m3/s and a discharge of 729.90m3/s.
Water levels are rising in the Jukskei river, threatening the Setshwetla informal community in Alexandra.
Speaking on behalf of Emergency Services in Joburg, Robert Mulaudzi, said residents in low -lying areas are urged to avoid crossing river streams when conducting daily activities, monitor young children to stay away from river streams during school holidays.
“Faith-based organizations are urged to avoid visiting river streams to conduct baptism and cleansing rituals.”
The Tshwane Emergency Services said one person died, in Welbekend, near Bronkhorstspruit, when a roof blown by strong wind caved in.
