Three suspects were caught with 84 Armadillo girdled lizards, in Garies, in the Northern Cape, on Monday.
The value of the reptiles is estimated at R123 000-00.
The men are aged, 21, 29 and 37.
The police said they acted on information received about the trio.
It took a high-speed chase to catch them, after they refused to stop when directed by officials.
During the chase, the suspects were seen tossing lizards out of the car.
They are expected to appear in the Garies Magistrate’s Court soon, while further investigations continue by the Springbok Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit (STESU).
