Reports claiming Dada Morero, Joburg Mayor was recalled by the ANC, made headline news on Sunday morning early.
But no formal statement was issued to back this claim.
Reports claim the decision was made during an urgent and special Regional Executive Committee (REC) meeting held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, following internal party factions.
Morero spoke about his lovely time at church on Sunday, and progressive art he attended, on Saturday.
Morero broke his silence, after Belinda Kayser Echeozonjoku, wrote on social media “DA-Jhb received whistleblower info that allegedly Dada Morero, is plotting to destabilise the City, allegedly fabricating charges against CM, GCFO and other Senior Officials, for listing risks to the City of Johannesburg, in the adjustment report. This will include a smear campaign against senior officials like CM and others, ANC seems desperate to loot the City’s resources, to fund its 2026 local government elections and the so-called “shutdown Joburg” campaign to stop service delivery.”
Morero responded with “honourable Belinda, your party’s outright rejection of the adjustment budget seems like a clear attempt at political brinkmanship designed to destabilize the city and derail our urgent infrastructure projects. This move exposes a troubling lack of genuine concern for effective governance and workplace stability. Instead, it looks more like a desperate ploy by a party that appears indifferent to service delivery and stability. Contrary to your claims of destabilization, which is often a tactic associated with the DA’s divide-and-conquer approach, your actions seem aimed at painting the GLU as incapable of managing the city effectively. Cllr Belinda, it’s obvious you don’t quite grasp how the Budget Adjustment process works. While I don’t fault you entirely for the lack of understanding, I do accuse you of making false allegations against dedicated officials. It’s painfully clear that Cllr Belinda and the blue brigade are playing dangerous political games. Their attempts to block waste management at depots, risking chaos in waste collection, are driven by manipulative tactics from their leader and mayoral candidate. Incidents in Randburg, Diepsloot, and Cosmo City have compelled the city to involve law enforcement to counter this orchestrated destabilization. Stop it My sister it is not cute.”
