Rockfalls have necessitated a temporary closure of the Meiringspoort Road, in Oudtshoorn.

Sources suspect an accident involving two trucks is the cause of rockfalls, while others say heavy thunderstorms overnight, weakened the stability of the slope.

The Oudtshoorn Municipality announced closure of the road temporarily on Wednesday, while cleaning operations continue.

Motorists are requested to use alternative routes until the road has been safely reopened.

The Municipality said the road might reopen after 14:00, subject to safety conditions.
