Environmentalists in KwaZulu Natal are looking forward to a court case, to be heard on Friday, at the Howick Magistrate’s Court.

The case dates back to November 2025, where alleged poachers with dogs were apprehended on a farm in the Lions River area, just outside Howick.

Poachers were arrested and dogs impounded.

Dogs were later released the next day, because the case was not registered as an illegal hunting case, due to the fact that no animal was killed.

Hence the trespassing prosecution.

The case has been remanded at least four times so far.

The Lions River Honorary Officers, part of Ezemvelo Wildlife, have requested support from the community.

“By standing together with respect and resolve, we honor the wildlife we serve and ensure their value is recognized.  We invite you to join us for the morning as we witness the process of justice for those who cannot speak for themselves” said the Honorary Rangers.

UMngeni Local Municipality is expected to monitor the proceedings.

“Let’s show the court that our community remains focused, united, and constant.”
