Reports of damaged homes in Katlehong and flooded roads in Midrand, following Monday’s heavy rains, were confirmed by Johannesburg’s emergency services (EMS).
Eleven homes were affected in Kwanele, in Katlehong.
The roads in Midrand were so badly affected that two taxis were stuck in flooded Republic Road and Allandale Road in Varna Valley.
Elsewhere in Mpophomeni in the midlands, Siboniso Duma, MEC of Transport, visited homes that were affected by heavy downpours over the weekend.
Chris Pappas, the Mayor of uMngeni Municipality, said “we are particularly encouraged by Duma’s promise to replace asbestos roofs affected by the storm. This commitment brings hope to more than 800 households.”
