Tropical Cyclone Narelle is approaching Western Australia next.

The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that a category 2 tropical cyclone is expected on the west south-west, roughly parallel to the Pilbara coast.

“The system is larger than usual and although the cyclone is located well north of the Pilbara, gales are likely to extend to the coast this afternoon and evening” said the Bureau, on Wednesday.

It has caused damage across Northern Australia, affecting Cape York, Queensland, including Coen, Lockhart River, and Aurukun.

It had wind gusts of over 180km/ hour.
