The Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality welcomed a contractor, expected to build about 9,5 km road, at a cost of R78-million.
The Municipality also said work would commence in July 2026.
Speaking from the council chamber, Anna Mboweni, the Mayor of the Municipality, pleaded with the contractor to work closely with authorities and communities to avoid choas.
This follows reports of incomplete multimillion roads and related community protests.
“The project is expected to address existing road conditions, improve accessibility for communities, and contribute to safer and more reliable transport routes and also create employment for locals” said Mboweni
Details regarding the scope of work, project timelines and operational arrangements were outlined.
