The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) confirmed an earthquake off the coast of southern Italy, in the early hours of Tuesday.

The quake was measured at 6.1.

Its epicentre was located just off the city of Cosenza, about 240 kilometers southeast of Naples.

It occurred at a depth of about 250 kilometers.

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab, recorded another quake at 4.8.

That one was shallow at a depth of 66.80 km beneath the epicenter, near Casarano, Provincia di Lecce, in Italy, after midnight on Tuesday.

No major damage was caused by both quakes and no casualties were reported.
