Silindile Mbuyazi, is the 2026 National Geographic Wayfinder.  

This announcement was made by the National Geographic Society, on Thursday, 9 June 2026.

Kia, honours about 15 visionaries, every year, who excel in science, conservation, education, technology and storytelling. 

Mbuyazi was honoured for her remarkable work in training more than 150 divers and has opened pathways for the storytellers, scientists and young people from her community to learn more about the ocean.  

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife said her work should be recognised  because of its contribution to marine conservation.

Ayanda Dube of Ezemvelo, said in a statement on Sunday “Mbuyazi will continue to fly the conservation flag high in the United States, where she will be presenting a talk at the National Geographic Explorers Festival on Thursday.”

Mbuyazi was born and bred in Sodwana, uMhlabuyalingana district.
