Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) said electricity generation (production) decreased by 9,0% year-on-year, in May 2026.
Seasonally adjusted electricity generation increased by 0,6% in May 2026, compared with April 2026.
This equates to month-on-month changes of -1,7% in April 2026 and -1,4% in March 2026.
StatsSA also said seasonally adjusted electricity generation decreased by 2,2% in the three months ending in May 2026, compared to previous three months.
Electricity distribution (consumption) decreased by 4,3% year-on-year in May 2026.
Distribution increased by 1,5% during the same period.
