Protesters next to the Them’belihle Informal Settlement, South of Johannesburg, are causing significant traffic disruptions.
As a result, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said it blocked and barricaded Bangalore and Vaal Streets.
The Klipspruit Valley Road (K43) is also affected.
Protesters have blocked off that road with burning tyres, rocks, and debris, aggrieved over power outages.
JMPD also said its officers are currently at the scene.
Motorists are strongly advised to avoid this area and to use alternative routes such as the Golden Highway (R553), Nirvana Drive (R554) and Walter Road (for those traveling from Lawley and Ennerdale areas).
