An Air Quality Advisory was issued over Canada on Thursday, 16 July, due to unhealthy air pollution levels.
The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) also said large plumes of smoke from wildfires were affecting air quality across large parts of the United States, including the northeastern parts and New York.
Moreover, footage from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) showed cumulative estimated carbon emissions last week, along with forecasts of organic matter aerosol optical depth.
“Wildfire emissions contain toxic pollutants that are harmful to human health. Atmospheric science provides the tools to anticipate and track extreme air pollution events, including wildfire smoke and other transboundary hazards that affect millions of people across continents. Monitoring and forecasting enable governments and National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) to issue early warnings, helping to protect people and their livelihoods from exposure to hazardous levels of air pollution” said WMO in an update on Sunday.
