The DR1525 (Vleesbaai–Gouritsmond Road) access to the Gourits low-level bridge was officially reopened following the successful completion of flood damage repairs.
Motorists were diverted via the N2 and Albertinia, while repair work was undertaken.
The Municipality also urged the public to avoid flooded roads, low-water crossings and riverbanks during the flooding event.
Since then, contractors worked to restore the affected infrastructure and ensure that the route is once again safe for public use.
The Mosselbay Municipality announced the reopening of DR1525 route is now open to traffic.
Similarly, the access to the Gourits low-level bridge was also restored.
Cornelle Carstens-Johnson if the Municipality said via social media, “the reopening marks an important milestone for the Gouritsmond area, restoring a key transport link for local residents, businesses, tourists and agricultural users.”
There are still 20 roads across the Garden Route, still closed, due to floods.
