Police in the North West recovered an estimated 422kg of suspected stolen copper cable, with an estimated street value of R84 000.00.
Two suspects were arrested for this.
Police worked closely with the Provincial Crime Intelligence Overt Operations Office and Transnet Security, to locate a vehicle supposedly transporting stolen copper cable.
The vehicle was found in Bloemhof.
One of the suspects, is expected in court on Monday, 21 September 2026.
Police also found aluminium conductors, aluminium pots and municipal street-light poles during operations, at Maditlhokwa Shaft in Marikana, in the North West, on Thursday.
The items were found at a backyard facility.
No arrests were made for this incident.
But a 40-year-old man found in possession of suspected stolen property, including Transnet copper cable and municipal street-light poles, was arrested on Thursday.
He was found while transporting copper cable from the Leeudoringstad area to Klerksdorp.
During the search, police discovered 21 rolls of Transnet signal copper cable, weighing approximately 26.10kg, as well as 20 pieces of municipal street-light poles, with an estimated value of R4 500.00.
Lieutenant General Arthur Adams, the Provincial Commissioner of North West, urged members of the public to report suspicious activities involving the theft, possession or destruction of infrastructure to the police.
