Rain continues in Nieuwedam, Vanwyksvlei and the Namakwa district.
The Northern Cape department of education closed schools temporarily on Monday, following a yellow level 4 weather warning.
The Northern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works also urged motorists and other road users in the Namakwa District, to avoid unnecessary travel on wet and muddy gravel roads.
Geoffrey van der Merwe, Media Liaison Officer of the Department of Education, said “the department understands the importance of the Grade 12 preparatory examinations and remains committed to ensuring that the disruption caused by the adverse weather conditions does not disadvantage learners. Appropriate contingency measures will be implemented to ensure that the affected examination papers are written at a later date.”
Some roads are starting to flood, including the Klipwerf Road – Driekuil. Two low-water bridges are overflowing.
Similarly, the Calvinia–Middelpos Road – KM 92 is wet and slippery as well as the Calvinia–Clanwilliam Road – between the R27 and Botterkloof.
But the Cedeberg Municipality in the Western Cape, said it found no incidents of flooding across its area, on Monday.
The Municipality said it inspected all flood prone areas, including the Khayelitsha informal settlement in Clanwilliam and the Riverview in Citrusdal.
It committed to continue to monitor vulnerable areas throughout the night.
