Motorists are encouraged to stay vigilant particularly around Estcourt on the N3.
Sboniso Duma, MEC of Transport in KwaZulu Natal said “I have received a report from the Road Traffic Inspectorate Medway indicating that there is heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm in Estcourt and along the N3.
In this regard, we request motorists to exercise extra caution—reduce speed and keep the following distance.”
Similarly, the City of Johannesburg asked residents businesses, and community organizations to keep roads safe and clean by preventing blockages.
Dada Morero, Mayor of Johannesburg, urged everyone to sweep debris away from drains, join local clean-ups, and report weather-related incidents promptly.
“While rains bring much-needed relief, accumulated litter and garden debris can wash into stormwater drains, causing severe street flooding, sewer overflows, and road damage” said Morero.
The 3rd Avenue in Port Elizabeth is already closed because it is flooded.
