Tensions were high in Kliptown on Thursday, following prolonged electricity interruption at the Golf Course.
Technicians were busy with restoration work, when a clash with members of the public ensued.
The outage affects both Kliptown Golf Course and Pimville Zone 9.
City Power announced it would therefore temporarily withdraw resources from Kliptown amid violent protest action.
Isaac Mangena, Spokesperson of City Power, said the decision was taken to secure its employees.
“The temporary withdrawal does not constitute a refusal to attend to the outage. Rather, it is a necessary safety measure, particularly as technical teams could have made further progress towards restoring electricity had they been able to continue working” he said.
He also said City Power deployed technical teams to conduct fault-finding investigations, which established that the interruption was caused by a faulty cable termination. Arrangements were subsequently made for the necessary repair intervention.
“The repair process requires the affected cable and its termination to be safely isolated, assessed and repaired before the network can be energised. A cable termination is the point at which an electrical cable connects to equipment such as a switchgear panel, transformer or other network apparatus” he said.
