Motorists are urged to avoid flooded routes and low-lying bridges, as heavy rains continue.

The Tshwane Metro Police said flooded roads include Rabie Street at Vom Willich Avenue and Embankment Road in Centurion.

Dr Angelo Hoorn, of the Severe Weather Information System (swaicsa) wrote that the current weather in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, KZN and surrounding areas is linked to a massive, deep mid-latitude cyclone south of South Africa.

“It is a system so powerful that it is driving the atmosphere over half the subcontinent.
That cyclone south of SA is an absolute beast! With extremely low pressure (L954 hPa) and tightly packed isobars, it is generating violent storms over the Southern Ocean, far more severe than anything experienced over land.”
