Severe weather is predicted to start this Saturday evening, according to a statement issued by Weather SA’s risk reduction division.

Residents can expect thunderstorms, floods and heavy rainfall.
This is caused by a low-cut off pressure system, which is expected to start at the West Coast this evening.

Weather is expected to “intensify” on Sunday.
This will lead to widespread thunderstorms for the Southern Free State, the Northern Cape, parts of the Eastern and Western Cape.

The Cape (Northern, Eastern and Western) may experience bursts of heavy rains which may cause flash floods, gale force winds and very rough seas of between 4 – 6 meters.

The rest of the country is expected to remain cool from Sunday, and particularly cold in the Western and Southern interior.

The low-cut off is expected to journey to the Southern Coast on Monday, resulting in 24 – hour rainfall of between 60 – 100 mm.
