Summit nightclub owes City Power R2,6 million and became one of the stops to several facilities in Hillbrow, to have electricity supply cut off.
The disconnection is part of a Mayoral High-Impact Service Delivery Programme in the Johannesburg inner city.
Dada Morero, the Mayor of Joburg, said in a media statement, that the operation is focused on restoring compliance, recovering revenue owed to the City, and protecting critical electricity infrastructure.
“As part of today’s intervention, City Power disconnected two major inner-city businesses — a prominent Hillbrow nightclub and a shopping complex with residential flats — after they accumulated a combined electricity debt of nearly R25 million.”
City Power said it remains committed to collect more than R10 billion, owed to it.
On Tuesday, City Power, Emergency Services (EMS) and the Building Control Unit, switched off electricity in properties owing R25 million, along Claim Street, Esselen Street and Edith Cavell Street.
