The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) has declared a protected socio-economic protest action, on Tuesday, 7 October 2025.
Cosatu said in a statement, the protest would take three different forms on Tuesday, including a National Day of Protest (7 October 2025), A full-day strike from 00:00 to 23:59 with marches and pickets in all major cities and towns nationwide.
2-Hour Pickets (12:00 to 14:00) are already underway, having started on the 16 September 2025. These take place during working hours at various workplaces.
The labour union, said reasons for the protest, date back to a notice submitted to NEDLAC on 21 August 2017, demanding, retrenchments be curbed.
NEDLAC Section 77 Standing Committee and plenary meetings, respondents failed to adequately engage or resolve these demands.
Things have snowballed to protest action on Tuesday.
