The fire in Cederberg, which has now burnt an estimated ±35 016 hectares, is somewhat contained.

Cape Nature said in a statement, the fire is 85% contained and is in its 10th day today.

An active line is in Divisions A (Kleinjongenskraal), Maraisberg and Z (Remhoogte), with the potential of spreading towards Kleinplasie. 

All other divisions in the Northern Cederberg are fully contained.

Firefighters are from CapeNature, Working on Fire (WOF), the West Coast District Municipality, Cederberg Municipality and Cape Winelands. 

No lives or homes were lost as a result.

A wooden cottage and a caravan at Driehoek, were affected by the fire.

Franquin Petersen, Director of Community Services and Public Safety in the Cederberg, said on Tuesday, firefighting, monitoring, and containment operations are ongoing, under challenging conditions, including rugged terrain, weather variability and access limitations.

Matjiesrivier nature reserve, in the area, is closed until further notice, including all its hiking trails- Algeria and Bosherberge Campsites, Stadsaal, Truitjieskraal.
