Mud homes were destroyed in the Chief Albert Luthuli Municipal area, on Tuesday, following heavy rains in Mpumalanga.
Mbuso Magubane, the Mayor of the area, said he activated a Disaster Management Centre.
The assessment of the damage is still underway.
Magubane said residents and visitors alike should note “rivers and streams are swollen and flowing rapidly. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads, rivers and streams, on foot or in a vehicle.”
He also said the principle of “turn around, don’t drown” must be observed at all times.
