A probe into allegations of Unauthorised, Irregular, Fruitless, and Wasteful Expenditure (UIFWE) is currently underway, at the Crawfords Beach Lodge in Chintsa, at the Buffalo Municipality.
The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC), is perusing contracts for the financial years 2021 to 2024.
This is subsequent to a finding by the Auditor-General South Africa (AGSA), that there were discrepancies in budgets allocated by the City, versus amounts used.
Sakhumzi Caga, Chairperson of the Committee, said: “we are here today to scrutinise financial irregularities and to ensure accountability in Municipal spending.
We also aim to review and to consider the committee’s recommendations on irregular expenditure deemed irrecoverable.”
Representatives from National Treasury and the department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), have been working closely with the committee, since Thursday, 11 September.
