Three male suspects were arrested by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit (TRU) for posing as City Power employees, at Evette Court, in Jeppe Street, Johannesburg.

They were actually caught out by EnviroMongz security, who later called TRU.

A quick investigation revealed two of the  suspects are City Power interns, but are not authorised for field metering.

The third suspect (a Ugandan national) falsely claimed to be a City Power Manager.

The trio demanded and received R3,500 from a building owner to “inspect” meters.

Officers recovered the R3,500 cash and City Power uniforms used in the commission of the crime.
