Midrand
The Mayor of Johannesburg, Dada Morero, and David Mahlobo, Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, visited Midrand reservoirs on Tuesday, following water supply challenges in the area.
This follows recent water supply hiccups at the Rand Water Klipfontein Reservoir Complex.
Joburg Water confirmed inflow into the Erand reservoir, which was strained yesterday, and the President reservoir is improving.
The Grand Central, Rabie Ridge and Diepsloot reservoirs are low but also improving.
Morero said technical teams continue to monitor the situation.
He also said he is aware of similar water supply challenges in Soweto (Naledi) and that teams are trying to resolve the situation.
He also appealed to residents to pause harvesting, which is adding an additional strain on the system.
Joburg Water said prolonged maintenance at the Palmiet Pump Station, followed by a power trip at Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch Treatment Plant on 27 January 2026, affected the Eikenhof and Zwartkoppies supply systems.
Although partial pumping capacity was restored, these incidents significantly reduced the volume of water supplied into the Palmiet system.
An additional power failure at the Palmiet Pump Station, on Saturday, further destabilising the system.

Theewaterskloof
Reservoir level remains critically low following repairs done over the weekend.
While most residents currently have access to water, those living in higher-lying areas may still experience low water pressure due to the low reservoir levels.
The Municipality said technical teams repaired a further three leaks on the gravity line on Monday and cleaning work was completed in the mountain area, in a bid to free up more water.
Residents are urged to use water sparingly.
