Over 130,000 qualifying beneficiaries for Free Basic Electricity, were registered by City Power, ahead of the December 2025 deadline.

Jack Sekwaila, the MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Department, said he is pleased with the number of indigent residents who heeded the call by City Power to register for free basic electricity as part of the City’s overall Extended Social Package.

Each registered household will receive 120 Kilowatts per hour (kWh), per month, instead of 30kWh.

Sekwaila also said households with four to seven people will now receive an additional 30kWh, bringing their allocation to a maximum of 80kWh per month.

Households with eight or more people will receive an additional 40kWh, adding up to 120kWh of electricity.

He said the adjustments are in line with Consumer Price Index (CPI).
