About 15,000 rounds of historic ammunition, with an estimated value of R7 million, were found at Sunrise in De Aar.

Municipal employees first uncovered crates containing ammunition, while working at a camp at Sunrise and quickly alerted the police.

After an assessment, police identified the goods as .303 rounds, believed to date back to the Anglo-Boer War.

A multi-disciplinary team comprising members of the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC), Explosives Unit, K9 Unit and Sunrise detectives were deployed to the scene.
