At least 1.6 million people still face food insecurity in Gaza.

About 101,000 of the total amount, are children under five, who are likely to suffer acute malnutrition through mid-October 2026.

Speaking about this crisis, Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, said on Friday, the latest assessment shows recent improvements remain highly fragile and require sustained, expanded, and consistent humanitarian and commercial access.

This is despite the fact that food security and nutrition has improved slightly in the Gaza Strip, since August 2025.

But the report by the Famine Review Committee, shows the majority of the population continue to face high levels of acute food insecurity, including over 500,000 people facing Emergency (IPC Phase 4) and more than 100,000 experiencing Catastrophe (IPC Phase 5).

Further, acute malnutrition is at Critical levels (IPC AMN Phase 4) in Gaza Governorate and Serious (IPC AMN Phase 3) in Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis governorates.

This is expected to get worse in the coming months, decreasing the most affected population, to a head count of 1,900 people, by mid-April 2026.

The whole population would be plunged in abject poverty, by mid-April 2026, if the worst had to happen, such as renewed hostilities and a halt in humanitarian and commercial inflows.
