One firefighter was treated by emergency services for smoke inhalation, after the Lillian Diedericks building in the Central area of Gqeberha, caught fire on Wednesday.
Sithembiso Soyaya, Spokesperson of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, confirmed the fire occurred on the 17th floor.
Soyaya said preliminary assessments indicate an air conditioning unit, overheated and sparked the fire.
Damage caused is estimated at between R150 000 and R250 000.
