Two suspects were arrested on Friday, in Kwazakele, Port Elizabeth, for poaching abalone, with a street value of R340,000.

The suspects are 31 and 35 years old, and were detained on charges of the contravention of the Marine Living Resource Act, 19 of 1998 Regulation 36 sub sect 1 – illegal possession of abalone and illegal Immigrant contravening Section 9(1) of Act 13/2002. 

Police said at around 2pm, they were following a lead to Meke Street, when they noticed a group of people at Paarl Street, Greenfields, coming out of a container that was running in different directions. 

They stopped  to search the container and found 20 bags full of wet abalone.

The suspects are expected to appear in the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court, on Monday 01 September 2025.
