About 20 EVs arrived on Wednesday, including light delivery vehicles and trucks.

Another 100 are expected to arrive in the near future, to support Eskom’s Distribution and Generation divisions, which have the largest footprint.

This follows the installation of 10 charging stations at five sites,  to support electric transportation.

Speaking at a  ribbon-cutting ceremony, earlier, Agnes Mlambo, Group Executive for Distribution, said “Eskom is taking steps to transform how South Africans move in a world where climate change is no longer a distant threat but an urgent reality. The launch of these vehicles is not only about mobility, it is about reimagining the energy landscape, reducing carbon emissions, and ensuring every community benefits from the transition to sustainable transport.”

The power utility has committed to gradually transitioning its entire fleet to EVs, come 2035.

Eskom’s Dan Marokane, said 55 public EV charging stations will be installed in the next two years.
