The number of people deceased has increased underground Stilfontein, as rescue operations continue on Thursday.
About 246 people were pulled out alive and 78 deceased, using a cage organized by Mine Rescue experts and communities.
Zinzi Tom, who won a case to rescue her brother from one of the shafts in Stilfontein, is still awaiting her brother to resurface.
An estimated 1,576 miners resurfaced voluntarily from underground Stilfontein, since August and Sunday, when rescue operations began, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) said about illegal mining in Stilfontein, on Tuesday, “these miners, many of them undocumented and desperate workers from Mozambique and other Southern African countries, were left to die in one of the most horrific displays of state wilful negligence in recent history.”
