South Korea’s fires have claimed about 27 lives in just 5 days, including 2 firefighters.
About 20 people were injured, as the fires continue to burn over 81,500 hectares, in the country’s southeastern region.
Dry winds propelled multiple wildfires, leaving a trail of destruction, including historical sites of significance.
Blazes began igniting on March 21, which led to evacuations and thousands of personnel deployed.
About 100 helicopters were also deployed in fire fighting efforts.
According to NASA Earth Observatory’s Michala Garrison, as of March 24, many of the fires were extinguished, leaving large blazes in Uiseong and Sancheong.
The government has declared a state of disaster for affected regions.
