6 workers employed by a contractor of City Power, at the Observatory Substation in the Inner City Service Delivery Centre (SDC), were arrested for cable theft related charges, on Tuesday, 11
February 2025.

The 6 were arrested while in possession of suspected stolen copper cables.

City Power’s Isaac Mangena, said “during the inspection, we discovered four individuals from a contracted company, cutting and stripping various sizes of copper cables—some burnt and others intact. A search of the bus used to transport those workers revealed two individuals with copper cables hidden in their bags and shoes, while additional cables were found under the bus.”

Mangena said the suspects are aged between 20 and 43.

The suspects are scheduled to appear before the local Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 12 February 2025.

The total weight of the confiscated copper cables is 129.5 kg.
An additional 11.6 kg of copper cables were found under the bus.
