Seven (7) suspects were arrested on Saturday, the 05th October 2024, while washing gold ores from gold bearing sand.
This was during Operation Vala Umgodi, a campaign by the police to combat illegal mining, in Thabong Extension near Welkom.
A case docket of possession of suspected gold bearing material and gold processing equipment with an additional charge of Contravention of the Immigration Act was opened at Thabong Police Station.
