The Association of Water and Sanitation (AWSISA) has expressed concern about Gauteng’s loss of 2,6 billion liters of water every day.

AWSISA has attributed this to the failure of Municipalities to manage the resource efficiently.

In a statement, AWSISA said this situation is dire.

“Municipalities owe water boards over R25 billion….. and failure to maintain and repair municipal infrastructure, means that no matter how much water is put into the system, it ends up being lost, often into the ground.”

AWSISA also said equally, the interrupted power supply from Municipalities, also continues to hinder effective treatment and supply of water.

AWSISA said non payment by residents must change, as well as business and Government.
