City Power said it plans to resume its operations in Alexandra on Thursday morning, following a  meeting held with community leadership on Wednesday, 19 February 2025.

This follows a recent temporary suspension of  services on Tuesday evening, due to a violent incident involving the attack on two of the local power utility’s employees.

City Power’s Isaac Mangena, said “the recent unrest has not only affected our operations, but has also had a significant impact on other community services, including damage to vehicles, the closure of clinics and disruptions to traffic.”

He also said efforts underway to strengthen stakeholder engagement, in areas experiencing frequent outages, will include educational campaigns and detailed communication on power supply challenges.

He also said the plan is to resume full services on Thursday, whilst teams work on some outages,in  Alexandra Substation, which affected customers in Tsutsumani, Far East Bank, Extension 7, Extension 8, London Road and Rooth Street, as well as the Vasco Da Gama Switching Station.
