Ms Earth South Africa and Joburg City Parks hosted 500 learners from Orange Farm, at the Joburg Zoo, on Friday, to commemorate Arbor Month.
Joburg City Park’s Jenny Moodley, said the learners will be taught about the importance of trees and therefore, the need to protect them.
In addition, 100 indigenous and 50 fruit trees, will be distributed to various schools, in accordance with the Park’s greening plan.
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) has set a target of planting a million trees, in the 2024/2025 financial year.
This year’s theme for Arbor Month is “my tree, my oxygen, plant yours today.”
