The fire around Drakenstein Prison on the R301, between Paarl and Franschhoek, rages on.
The Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) said firefighting efforts are being hampered by very high fuel loads, consisting of dense alien and mixed vegetation, stumps and branches from previously felled trees, and extremely uneven terrain.
Moreover, several flare ups were also exacerbated by strong winds.
The Municipality also said it would allow fire lines to burn toward more accessible areas, in a bid to safely contain the fire lines.
