The Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality has distanced itself from evictions in the Bongweni area.
In a statement, the Municipality said it is not involved in the operation, nor has it authorised any eviction or demolition activity in the area.
“Preliminary information indicates that the land in question is privately owned by the Agricultural Research Council (ARC).
As such, any action taken on the site is being carried out by the legal landowner or parties acting on its instruction.”
The Muni also said it has not issued instructions, provided resources, or participated in the removal of residents from the property.
