Rivers are overflowing and services interrupted in some areas, as rains continue in Gauteng, western Limpopo, the North West and the Highveld and Escarpment of Mpumalanga. 

Authorities including the South African Weather Service (SAWS), warned against crossing low-lying, bridges/areas.

Gamtoos Water urged visitors to Kouga, in the Eastern Cape, to note that the low level bridge, giving access to the main dam is flooding.

It will not be possible to reach the dam in the next 48 hours.

Umzinyathi Local Municipality in KwaZulu Natal also shared a video of an overflowing Tugela River, on Saturday.

The City of Tshwane said the Bronkhorspruit water treatment plant was switched off due to Wednesday’s heavy rains, which led to a deterioration of water quality.

The City said the quality of water entering the plant is poor and does not meet safety standards. 

Similarly, residents of Osizweni and Manzana areas, who are affected by floods, had no electricity for the better part of Saturday.
Eskom said teams were working at the Vlaklaagte substation, to fix a faulty transformer, to be ready by 18h00 on Saturday evening. 

In Johannesburg, residents took to social networks to share proof of hailstones, in Soweto, Roodepoort, Fourways, Edenvale, Boksburg and Krugersdorp.
