Active wildfires in the Western Cape are on the Swartberg Mountain near Oudtshoorn and Wemmershoek near Franschhoek.

The Garden Route District said the fire on the Swartberg mountains is active on both the southern and northern slopes, with firelines of about 2 to 3 kilometres. 

It is about a kilometre and a half away from a game farm fence.

Firefighters are from the Garden Route District Municipality, the Southern Cape Fire Protection Association, CapeNature, Working on Fire, and affected landowners.

The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s (CWDM) Fire Services and partners said there were flare ups in Wemmershoek on Tuesday.

The fire, originated in the Langrug area on the 7 January 2026, and has burnt more than 17 000 hectares. 

Suppression efforts are underway.

There is also a new veldfire within the District- the Retreat Farm, McGregor.

Aerial resources and a contracted ground team, is working along the affected area.
