Another inner city fire broke out at the corner of Bree and Harrison Streets in the Johannesburg CBD, on Friday morning.

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) firefighters responded at around 03:00am.

Xolile Khumalo, Media Liason Officer of EMS, said initial assessments indicate that the fire originated in a secluded City Power utility room on the ground floor, which houses a large transformer.

“The utility room is separate from the main sixteen-storey building that contains both residential and commercial sections” said Khumalo.

The fire did not spread to the main building or to any other floors.

She also said EMS teams remain on the scene to annihilate any chances of re-ignition.
