The Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality has rubbished claims there are four lions doing the rounds close to residential areas, including Makhushane and Mabiriki.

The Municipality said it contacted the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), who went searching for the kings of the jungle.

Rangers from LEDET concluded overnight, no lions are in the area, and that spoor matched that of dogs.

The Municipality also cautioned community members against following rangers into the veld, during searches of stray wildlife.

Residents responded with ambivalence online to the Municipality’s latest statement on the matter.
