An 8-year old drowned at a dam in Kwanokuthula, in Plettenberg Bay on Monday.
This is the second drowning in just two months, reported in the town.
The Bitou Municipality said the child was playing with three others, with a skateboard, at a dam adjacent to South Cape College in Kwanokuthula.
He drowned while trying to rescue his friend.
Law enforcement authorities, ambulance and emergency services, and the National Sea Rescue Institute responded swiftly to the incident, but the boy did not survive.
