Two bodies were swept away by a river, on Thursday evening, in Msinga.

They were part of eight passengers, attempting to cross the low-lying Infenebude bridge on the P17 in eNadi, eMabovini.

Two other people escaped to safety, while six were swept away by flood waters.

Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KwaZulu Natal, said a team of law enforcement and rescue agencies, is actively looking for the four.

“Our teams are on the ground and will remain there until the missing are located. We have deployed all necessary resources to ensure the search operation proceeds without delay,” said Buthelezi.

The department has cautioned motorists against crossing low-lying bridges during heavy rainfall.
